It offers quiet study areas, computer access for both adults and children, self-checkout options, story times for kids, events, restrooms, and helpful staff. The library provides a quaint and pleasant atmosphere for visitors. However, there have been reports of loitering around the entrance/parking lot that may cause some discomfort to patrons.

Excellent place to bring a kid or to learn something fun with a very helpful, caring staff.
Have to pay for a Library card??!!?? Have lived in six counties in western Washington over 60 years span and never PAID for a Library card. No County system, only small town mentality. Three counties in SW Washington got together and made a library system. Not many years ago Seattle and King county got together and became One system...
Staff was short with myself and other visitors. An awful odor reeked thru out the adult side of the library i.e. Computers from 1999 and the 4 resrved stations for mobile users or homeless people to snore at. It appears covid hit this place very hard.Update: staff still impolite and uncouth to any adults without a child. The reek is still in the air. And this "library" is not an ok spot for any students over 10 to research papers or study for exams. Hopefully new staff for the new library!

Know before you go
- Be cautious of loitering individuals in the parking lot; ensure vehicle security by locking doors
- Check if there are any fees associated with obtaining a library card before visiting
- Consider visiting when the new library building is operational for better facilities
- For students over 10 looking to research or study intensively, assess if the current environment meets your needs
Reviews
Mount Vernon City Library is a beloved community spot with a mix of positive and negative reviews. Visitors appreciate the friendly staff, engaging children's programs like story time, and the upcoming new library building. However, some concerns were raised about safety due to loitering individuals in the parking lot, paid library cards, impolite staff behavior, and an unpleasant odor in certain areas of the library.

Love their story time and their kids learn and play program. Staff is really friendly and our first time attending story time the librarian came up to me afterwards and asked if it was our first time and introduced herself.
A good library that looks to be better when the new library building is operational. Has a good collection of newspapers and magazines despite an interior that could use better lighting.
