Burial will be in Forest Lawn. Goldstein, 81, of Williamsville, died March 23, 1997, in Millard Fillmore Hospital. 81, 23, He pioneered the concept that alcoholism is a disease. Through the University of Buffalo Medical School Round Table discussions, televised during the 1950s, he helped create public awareness of the magnitude of alcoholism as a public health problem. He started and directed the first alcohol rehabilitation center in New York State in 1948.

Operated in conjunction with UB, it was the first university-affiliated center of its kind in the country. He also worked with Alcoholics Anonymous in treating patients. Cecile F. Steffan, music Cecile F. Steffan, 92, a music teacher in the Buffalo Public Schools who was active in community affairs, died Sunday (March 30, 1997) in the home of her daughter Suzanne Saele in Providence, R.I.

The former Cecile Fornes was born in Buffalo and graduated from Nardin Academy. She received her bachelor's degree in music from Fredonia State Teachers College and taught music in the Buffalo Public Schools from 1930 to the late 1970s, with a 19- year hiatus to raise her family. She was an active member and officer of civic and church organizations, including the Mary Seton Guild of Sisters Hospital, Canisius Alumnae Association, Loyola Guild, State Retired Teachers Association, Saint Rose of Lima Altar and Rosary Society, Holy Angels Parents Guild and Canisius High School Parents Guild. She was the widow of William J. Steffan, partner in the wholesale leather firm of Jacob P.

Steffan and Sons in Buffalo. In addition to her daughter Suzanne, she is survived by two other daughters, Mary Kerrigan and Katherine Steffan-Stanek; two Warning! For half a century, Goldstein' specialized medicine' and gastroenterology. He was a clinical professor at the UB Medical School and was on the staffs of Millard Fillmore Hospital and, Meyer Memorial. Goldstein was a past of the UB Medical School Alumni Society.

He also was a past dent of the Montefiore Club and. the former Erie Downs Country Club. He was a member of ple Beth Zion; Perseverance Lodge, and Westwood Country Club. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Loraine Rawlings; a son, Dr. Harvey R.
